The book ‘Bohemian Brunswick Street’ covers four decades of a fascinating artistic culture, which began in Carlton, extended into Brunswick Street Fitzroy, where it thrived, then beyond, into regional Victoria. The stories are vivid and told in the words of the artists themselves and the entrepreneurs, who opened exotic venues such as Marijuana House, the Universal Theatre and cafes such as the Black Cat, Rhumbarellas and Marios.

The book is a beautiful coffee table book. The dimensions are 29cms x 29cms, with 648 pages, and a brilliantly coloured hand bound hard cover.

The cost of the book is $295 plus postage.

SPITFIRE

Spitfire, the plane that crushed Hitler’s dreams
This is the biography of my father Harold Murray Rittman, who flew as a Photo Reconnaissance pilot in WW2. He was in the RAAF but was attached to the RAF Squadron 683, stationed at San Severo in Southern Italy. My father flew 90 missions over enemy territory in the last year of the war and was granted the last flight over Europe, at the end of the war, as an honour. His mission was to photograph the Wolfsberg POW camp (StalagXVII-A),to ensure that prisoners were not being taken out to be shot. His plane was the only plane up. All other planes were removed from the air. My father’s mission was successful. The photograph of Wolfsberg PWC now resides in the Canberra war museum.
